Coming to the city’s East Village early next year, the new venue is opened by the team behind Brooklyn venue Baby’s All Right. The new space, named after its address at 101 Avenue A, will have events spanning every genre – from jazz to indie to electronic.
There will also be themed club nights, art exhibitions and other shows at the venue, Pitchfork reports.
Billy Jones and Tom Moore, the team behind Baby’s All Right, worked in partnership with Knitting Factory to open the space.
“This space holds so much history, and we’re excited to pay homage to its incredible legacy of course,” Jones shared in a press release. “But at the same time, we always want to push the conversation forward—creating a space that feels alive, surprising, and refreshingly open to the experimentational play that makes New York City, New York City and the reason I moved here 23 years ago.”
Pyramid Club closed in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic but shut its doors permanently shortly after in 2021.
Opened in 1981, Pyramid Club held early performances from Madonna, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Nirvana. It is also where LGBTQIA+ icons such as drag queen RuPaul first took the stage in New York City.
In other New York-related news, Bleachers, Sabrina Carpenter, Remi Wolf and more served as surprise performers at the 10th annual Ally Coalition Talent Show in the city last night (Thursday December 17).
Jack Antonoff hosted the 10th edition of the intimate star-studded fundraising gig for The Ally Coalition, the non-profit organisation he created with his sister Rachel, which supports at-risk LGBTQ+ youth, at NYU’s Skirball Center in NYC.
It contained a star-studded lineup and special guests, including NYC natives Laundry Day and Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates. Read NME‘s coverage of the event here.
