Matt Sorum shares thoughts on being excluded from Guns N’ Roses reunion
Former Guns N’ Roses member Matt Sorum has shared his thoughts on being excluded from the band’s reunion, saying he’s “much more at peace” with it than he was at the beginning.
Sorum appeared on the LEGENDS: Podcast, by All Day Vinyl, where he discussed if he had a chance to see Guns N’ Roses perform since the band reunited with guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan.
“They invited me to come play [with them as a guest], and I declined,” he said on the podcast, Blabbermouth reports. “I didn’t think it made sense to go play — what? — two songs and then do what? I mean, I play music. I play with musicians.
“So that’s cool. Whatever they’re doing is cool. I’m still living this vagabond dream of journeyman. I kind of like where I’m at as far as taking twists and turns…”
He then admitted that he’s made “peace” with being excluded from the reunion initially. “I’ll be honest in the beginning, it was a little weird,” Sorum said. “I’m, like, ‘Okay, well, it’s a reunion. Okay, well, make it a reunion.’ But it didn’t go that way. So, I’m much more at peace with it than I was in the very beginning.”
He also revealed that Ringo Starr of The Beatles called him to ask about being excluded from the reunion. “A guy that called me and actually talked to me about it was Ringo [Starr],” he said. “And he said, ‘You didn’t get invited to the party.’ I said, ‘No, I didn’t get invited to the party.’ And you’ll know this, being a person, if you don’t get invited to a party, I mean, come on — it’s gonna sting a little bit. It’s like I didn’t get invited to the party.”
Sorum continued: “But he told me a story about him and John [Lennon] and Paul [McCartney]. And I’m, like, ‘Is he actually saying…? He’s talking about John Lennon. This is crazy.’ That right there said to me, the universe is on my side. I’m on the phone with Ringo talking about not being invited to the party. That shit, I’m, like, bing!”

NME caught the band’s Glastonbury headline performance in 2023, calling it “one of their strongest sets in recent years” in a three-star review.
“To any G’N’R fan, the Glasto set undoubtedly marks one of the strongest sets that the rock veterans have given in recent years — completely devoid of sound issues, Axl Roses’ vocals in pretty good form, Slash at the top of his game and, probably the second biggest shock of the night, the band beginning the performance bang on time.”
