Here’s every song on the ‘Anora’ soundtrack

Mikey Madison in 'Anora'.

Anora is causing a lot of awards buzz in UK cinemas right now, but what songs feature on the film’s soundtrack? Read on for all the info.

The acclaimed independent film sees rising star Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in HollywoodScream) playing Anora ‘Ani’ Mikheeva, a stripper at a high-end Manhattan club, who meets Ivan ‘Vanya’ Zakharov (Mark Eydelshteyn), the wayward son of a rich Russian oligarch.

Vanya is immature and unreliable, but Ani strikes up a meaningful relationship with him, eventually leaving her job and marrying him, much to the consternation of Vanya’s wealthy parents.

The film is written and directed by Sean Baker, whose previous films have included the celebrated indie films TangerineThe Florida Project and Red RocketAnora premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it won the Palme d’Or Award, the first American film to do so since Terrence Malick’s The Tree Of Life in 2011.

NME spoke to Madison ahead of the film’s release, who gave insight into her relationship with her character. “I was excited about playing a character like this, because she’s very complicated,” she said. “I always wanted an audience to recognise her pain underneath everything.”

“She’s a very vulnerable person on the inside. There are times where she’s very hurt, very sad, but she’s constantly covering it up. She doesn’t want anyone to see her crack.”

Discussing the fact that Baker actually wrote the Anora script specifically for her, Madison added: “It’s very meaningful for someone to see something in you that nobody had really seen before, or given me an opportunity to show.”

The film features an original score from Matthew Hearon-Smith, who has collaborated with Baker on all of his previous feature films.

In addition, the film features a number of pop songs, including Blondie’s 1979 single ‘Dreaming’, which was first introduced into the film’s universe in the trailer from earlier in the year, which you can watch above.

The movie also includes very memorable uses of t.A.T.u.’s 2002 smash hit ‘All The Things She Said’, appropriately for a Russian-themed film, and most surprisingly Take That’s 2008 UK Number One ‘Greatest Day’.

In Madison’s chat with NME, she revealed that she “wasn’t familiar with” Take That’s music, but said “I think it’s such a catchy tune, and it works really well for the opening”.

Madison also shared that her friend Luna curated a “stripper playlist” for her to get into character, including tunes from Cardi BMegan Thee Stallion and Slayyyter.
